Full Disclosure: How the hell are we writing a book?

Many of the friends that we see on a daily basis want to know how on earth we are attempting to write a book and maintain a blog while rearing our kids. The truth is, we are barely managing it on some days. For example, we knew for months that our article for Baby Talk would hit the newsstands on Jan. 15. This meant that we had a clear and present deadline to get our website/blog up and running. We had plenty of lead time, but our lives and other commitments got in the way, and we ended up launching the site the day the article came out, and not a second earlier. We really sweated that one out.

Currently, we are challenged to rework three chapters and submit them to our wise agent who will hopefully approve them and move them on to our editor. Cathy and I were supposed to meet on Monday of this week, to discuss our progress, or lack thereof. But we didn't even get to have our meeting because I had to run around all day to prepare to take my kids out of town for the funeral of a close family member. By the way, I started the day at my doctor's office, seeking relief from an ear ache. Later that day, I did have an impromptu visit with Cathy in the waiting room at our pediatrician's office. I was on my way out with my twins, who were coughing and had runny poops. Cathy was sitting and waiting with her twins, to find out that one still had pneumonia and the other still had a double ear infection. We laughed when we saw each other and how disheveled we both looked and felt. We're just keeping it real for y'all. We are reporting live from the Mommy Trenches. How are things going for you with your twins?

Thank you, thank you!

We've been getting great feedback on the article we wrote for Baby Talk (Feb 2007). It's about caring for baby twins. We know how hard it is to find the time to actually read an article on-line or in a magazine while you are caring for baby twins, so we are beyond flattered that many of you have taken the time to go out of your way and check out our website, including our upcoming survey. This blog and the book we're working on are truly a labor of love. And they are taking a lot of our time and energy. Your feedback is so encouraging and motivating, so please continue to come back and check out what The Twin Set Moms are up to. We love to hear from you.

Mom, Writer, Blogger???

The first surprise came while I was getting the first sonogram of my third pregnancy: you're having twins. The second came when Christina and I signed a book deal with Crown (the implication of the contract being that now we actually have to write a book). The third is happening right now: I'm becoming a blogger. What a trip. How this is going to work, I am not quite sure, but I promise to be disciplined in offering only helpful tips and funny anecdotes as they relate to parenting twins.

I have four boys including one set of fraternal twins, Jack and Emmet. They are 19 months old. They are both sick and I am trying not to freak out about it. I know from my first two guys that babies get sick a lot between 1 and 2 years of age. It really feels like a lot because it's been continuous since late November and because there are two of them. There must be some mathematical conversion chart that proves the needs of two sick babies equals the needs of fifteen healthy ones. So here's my tip part: take the impossible off the table (i.e., making them better by tomorrow, launching your blogging career today, keeping them apart so they don't share germs) and focus on attacking the illnesses. We are going hardcore with both medicine and sleep, doctor's orders. The older guys are going to watch too much TV, they will have to get all their attention from mom in the hours while babies are sleeping and they'll probably be served pizza for dinner, but tomorrow has got to be a new day.
