Bribing your twins

I have an article in the May issue of babytalk about when bribing your baby is okay (check it out at parenting.com). Of course, as moms of twins, we may tend to do it an tiny bit more than moms of singletons. Anyways, this great blogger for the Wall Street Journal wrote a little piece on my article, and I am so flattered! So I want to give her on-line column a shout out. It's called thejuggle/wsj.com and she's a smart and funny writer who focuses on balancing work and mommy life issues. And there are so many of those to talk about. Check her out.

Also, let us know what you gals think about bribing your twins. For the record, I let my four year olds have a big bakery cookie before breakfast this morning so I could finish up an article I'm writing for another publication. You do what you gotta do. At least I do!

Finding a sitter for your twins

Point of this blog is from Niki, our true blog devotee. She sent me an email a while back with this idea and I am finally getting around to throwing it out there. Let us know what you think. And now, presenting Niki:
"I was thinking of you and Cathy late last week because I had a great idea for your blog. I have had the GREAT fortune of discovering not one but two highly qualified babysitters who are roommates! The two girls work at the daycare where both of my sets of twins go, and I discovered last week that they also do babysitting out of their home. I was tripping over myself in excitement! As I'm sure you both know, it's so hard to find a babysitter for your twins that is NOT a family member. I went to the girls' apartment on Friday to check it out, and my elation grew. Neither girl smokes, drinks or has a boyfriend. They are both college students, and are sweet, intelligent and responsible young ladies. My 6 month old twins are very fond of them because they work at the daycare, and the rates are extremely reasonable. I'm very particular about who watches my kids, because most babysitters aren't accustomed to having two children that are the same age to look after. It's been hard to find a babysitter that is willing to take on 2 six month old babies, so this was like discovering oil in my backyard. I thought I would share my experience with you all and hope that you might have something to add to make it an interesting read on your blog for others. I really enjoy reading it; keep up the good work!"

I don't know about you guys, but my favorite part of Niki's blog is that last sentence. Ha ha!

The difference between girls and boys

So we survived our twins' 4th bday. Last year, for their third, we borrowed our neighbor's bouncy castle, had a treasure hunt, a pinata, and a coloring craft. We got lucky because it was sunny enough for the 15 kids to run around outside and not trash our house. This year, we had only 13 kids, and a rainy day, so we were glad we sprung for a lady to come over and build Lego stuff with the kids. There were 7 boys and 6 girls, and the boys were way more into sitting down and building and then doing a show and tell about their Lego creation than the girls. They were busy running around my family room and then all going to the bathroom at the same time and giggling behind a closed door. My daughter was the ring leader of the silliness. I didn't really mind that she wasn't doing the Legos because she was laughing and smiling. It was a good party for a control-freak like me: I actually had the presence of mind to just let the girls be so long as they were having fun and being nice to each other.
